MCE was started by a husband-and-wife team as “McMurtrie Consulting Engineers” back in 2002. Now with more than 20 engineers on staff and a range of technicians, project managers and more, MCE has grown to become an industry leader in regional Australia. All the senior engineers on our team are respected experts in their field, and we’re proud to bring our extensive expertise to our local clients.

Lachlan McMurtrie

Lachlan is passionate about the development of regional Queensland. He has twenty years of experience in multidisciplinary consulting, including experience in Tier 1 firms in Brisbane and Canada prior to joining MCE in 2009.

His vast regional experience includes leading the engineering team for the $36 Million Rockhampton Riverbank Redevelopment – several CBD blocks of streetscape redevelopment that involved all facets of infrastructure planning and design and construction support services. He enjoys the challenge of delivering large complex urban redevelopment projects.

Lachlan is well regarded throughout Central Queensland, having grown MCE to the largest Civil and Structural Consultancy in the region. He has a collaborative approach and a reputation for honest, reliable service, forming genuine relationships with clients, local and state government authorities, contractors, and developers alike.

Mark Vignale is a Principal Civil Engineer with more than 25 years’ experience within the civil infrastructure industry. He has worked at senior levels in the public and private sectors.

Mark also spent 20 years in various roles within TMR (including RoadTek) where he earned his reputation as a highly respected leader, engineer and project manager.

His ‘hands on’ approach, engineering knowledge and project management skills along with his intricate understanding of technical issues mean Mark ensures our projects meet or exceed client expectations every time. He believes in a collaborative approach to problem solving with every client and project.

Chris is a highly skilled Principal Civil Engineer who has worked at senior levels across the public and private sectors for many years, gaining a depth of experience across planning, design, construction and infrastructure management.

He spent 22 years in various roles within DTMR where he established himself as a highly respected authority on road design and as a departmental spokesperson to the development industry.

Chris has an excellent understanding of and much “hands on” experience in urban and commercial development, traffic and transport, stormwater drainage, water supply, sewerage and other service connections as well as building design and construction and maintenance. He has an intricate understanding of technical issues and a strong reputation for achieving results and ensuring projects are delivered safely and on time.

Ian McMurtrie

Ian was where MCE began: he established McMurtrie Consulting Engineers in 2002. He is a Principal Civil Engineer and regional specialist with expertise in all aspects of civil engineering for private clients, government departments and local government throughout central and regional Queensland.

His ability to build strong, positive relationships with clients and tap into his regional networks means he always gets the best outcomes for his clients.

Prior to commencing his own practice, Ian worked for 9 years with Brown & Root Services (now Halliburton KBR) as their Central Queensland Manager having responsibility for offices in Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay and Airlie Beach as well as direct responsibility for the design and contract superintendency for the Small Arms Range at Shoal Water Bay. Ian also has over ten years’ experience with Local Government Authorities in Queensland in construction management for a wide variety of projects.

Rhys Alcorn

Rhys is a Project Engineer with 9 years’ experience in civil construction and engineering in regional Queensland. Having worked for both local governments and civil contractors, Rhys has a broad and detailed understanding of project management and civil construction.

Rhys has delivered multiple construction projects for the Department of Transport and Main Roads, local government, and other government agencies as well as civil engineering projects for private industry in the Central West.

Rhys specialises in Flood Damage Project Management, with responsibilities ranging from first response inspections, works programming, Flood Damage submissions and acquittals. Rhys’ depth of experience allows him to manage teams of Engineers to appropriately respond to natural disaster for both Local Governments and DTMR. He is also MCE’s Chief Remote Drone Pilot.

Isaac is an engineer with more than a decade of industry experience, who graduated in 2018 via the McMurtrie Cadet Engineer Education and Mentoring Program.

Isaac has a passion for structural engineering and has been a part of multiple major projects such as the proposed two tonne custom entry signage for Rocklea and the Airlie Beach Foreshore Revitalisation. Under the direction of our senior engineering staff, he has contributed to numerous projects across structural design, road design, stormwater modelling and construction supervision.

Richard Bywater

Richard has over 12 years’ experience in both structural and civil engineering across a broad range of projects covering building, development, transport and infrastructure.

Prior to commencing with MCE, Richard held roles in both the private and public sectors and has worked in Australia and the United Kingdom. Richard utilises his structural and civil engineering expertise to effectively coordinate built form and urban design projects.

He is experienced in all stages of project delivery from concept design to construction management and is highly proficient in managing input from all stakeholders to produce a successful outcome. Richard is passionate about delivering efficient designs on time and within budget. He uses his extensive design experience to capture potential issues early in the project and provide engineering solutions which typically save the client money and provide additional benefits.

Mayur joined MCE in 2013 as a Civil Engineer and has worked on the planning and delivering of civil infrastructure projects.

He is skilled in project managing subdivision works, conducting road safety audits and investigations and preparing engineering studies and reports – including stormwater management plans, across a variety of projects. He has developed an in-depth understanding of Austroads guidelines and Queensland Urban Drainage Manual.

Mayur has worked closely with DTMR, Local Government Authorities and private clients within the region. He believes that collaboration and communication are the keys to great outcomes.

Raitt is passionate about working in the regions, having begun his career in civil construction in Rockhampton prior to graduating as a civil engineer.

His experience includes working as a project engineer for the Central Highlands Regional Council in Emerald and as a site engineer on road construction projects at the Department of Transport and Main Roads in Rockhampton.

Raitt began working for MCE in February of 2019 and has gained a reputation for his skilled and thorough approach to every project.

Geoffrey has over 30 years consulting engineering experience as a structural engineer, predominantly throughout Central and North Queensland. For several years, Geoffrey has led the structural engineering services for our residential, commercial, mining, and industrial projects.

He is highly skilled in all aspects of consulting engineering practice, including marketing, business financial management, project management, engineering design and reporting, and drafting. He has extensive experience in structural and civil design and drafting for a wide variety of projects involving earthworks, drainage, foundations, timber framing, steel framing, and reinforced concrete. He has a reputation for technical precision and great communication skills.

Chantelle is a civil designer with over ten years’ design experience in transport infrastructure. She has applied TMR standards to deliver projects throughout the Central Queensland, North Coast and Metropolitan regions.

Chantelle has contributed technically to multiple projects including the gazettal of the road and rail corridor for the Bruce Highway Duplication and Rockhampton Ring Road, resumption drawings for the Gracemere Industrial Access project, and PUP investigation and modelling for the Suburban Rail Loop Authority in 2020.

Chantelle is highly skilled at working independently and within large project teams. Recently, at MCE, Chantelle has been involved in staff development, coordinating design teams locally and offshore, and mentoring emerging staff.

Royce has developed excellent skills across all areas of civil engineering. He has 10 years’ experience in preliminary and detailed design as well as documentation of civil elements for various civil and civil infrastructure projects from initiation to delivery.

Royce is a highly competent Civil Designer, leading the MCE team in 12D design and AutoCAD drafting.

Royce has extensive experience working with clients, key project stakeholders, and government authorities as well as on-site interaction with contractors and construction crews to efficiently and successfully deliver key projects.

Elise is a civil Engineer with experience across Design Consultancy, Technical Advisory, and Contract Administration and Verification. Elise has considerable recent experience in large transport infrastructure projects.

She has developed an expert knowledge of specifications, technical standards, policies and processes pertaining to infrastructure delivery. She is also highly experienced in preconstruction project management for road and transport infrastructure projects.

Elise is a skilled engineer who understands the importance of good communication and relationship building. She stays in close contact with clients, providing regular updates and ensuring the best outcome for projects through excellent communication and collaboration.

Along with maintaining company financial management, Cherylann assists in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures relating to Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Management Systems and manages and oversees the administration of HR policies.

Luke Studdert is a designer with more than 13 years’ experience in the engineering sector. He started out with Fitzroy River Water designing water and sewer infrastructure and then worked with Rockhampton Regional Council on a range of civil projects.

This landfills, bulk earthworks, rural roads, urban roads, drainage investigations and designs, and new/upgraded signalised/unsignalised intersections. More recently he led a local Tier 1 firms’ team in BIM delivery for a $1B defence project.

Luke’s diverse career experience and training provides an excellent foundation to work with diverse client organisations: he is skilled in identifying and understanding client issues and providing specialised solutions. At MCE, Luke has led the BIM and CAD aspects of many of our major projects. He is highly skilled in data quality, BIM co-ordination and design and drafting standards.

Brad is a Principal Civil Engineer and Water and Wastewater Engineering Manager with more than 40 years’ experience in the water industry.

Brad provides specialist engineering advice and management for feasibility planning, value management, design, asset optimisation, hydraulic modelling, capital improvements, water quality, risk management, value management facilitation, environmental compliance, treatment assessment, tender development, developer support, and construction management.

Brad has a passion for the development and delivery of ‘value for money’ water and wastewater solutions. He has managed a wide range of Water, Wastewater and Recycled Water operations and projects across four major Southeast Queensland Utilities – including major treatment plant upgrades, pumping stations, large Class A+ recycled water schemes, dams, gravity sewers and pressure mains. He remains at the forefront of the industry with over 25 years operational management in water and sewerage including water quality assessment.

He has successfully delivered multiple design projects for the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Parks and Wildlife, and other Local Government Agencies.

Nathaniel is skilled in working in the regional areas and is known for his friendly manner when interacting with clients, contractors and other collaborators. He brings technical precision to all aspects of civil engineering and construction administration and management. He regularly supervises and coordinates designers and subconsultants of multiple disciplines, liaising between various parties and maintaining cross-communication of the subconsultants to ensure design and construction project delivery timeframes are met.
