Lachlan McMurtrie has been named Engineer of the Year at the 2025 IPWEA-QNT Excellence Awards.
Lachlan says the recognition is both humbling and a reflection of the support of those who have helped him along the way.
“I enjoy learning from all of those around me – from our cadets that come in fresh-faced from university, to my original and all-time mentor, Dad,” Lachlan said.
“I feel very lucky with the mentors I’ve had throughout my career, and I believe that creating that time in your day to mentor the next generation of engineers is our most important role.”
As Director of MCE, Lachlan said his approach to engineering and leadership is built on some basic, but powerful principles.
“Set the work ethic benchmark, confront issues today not tomorrow and treat others how you would like to be treated – it doesn’t get much simpler, but nothing rings truer.”
The MCE team were also honoured as nominees in a number of award categories:
- Project Innovation – Gravel Pit Optimisation using QGIS (Rhys Alcorn)
- Projects $10 million+ – Foamed Bitumen & Triple Blend Stabilisation (Elise Pearson & Nathaniel Veenstra)
- Employer of the Year (Private Sector) – MCE
These successes follow MCE’s recognition in 2024 as Employer of the Year (Private Sector).
